How we see Early Childcare Education.
At Stepping Stones, we aim to empower all children to grow to be competent and confident learners through collaborative partnership with parents, guardians and whānau. This builds solid foundations to develop children’s knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes for lifelong learning.
Our centre.
Established in 1975, Stepping Stones Childcare Centre is governed by the Upper Hutt Community Children’s Centre Trust which is made up of past and present parents, caregivers, and members of the community. It is a self-supporting, not for profit organisation.
Our curriculum.
Our programme is underpinned by Te Whāriki, the early childhood curriculum. (Ministry of Education, 2017). This is based on the four principles of empowerment, holistic development, family and community and relationships. These principles are woven together with the five strands of well-being, belonging, contribution, communication, and exploration creating a base for planning, learning and assessment. Children’s learning and development is documented and shared with parents and whanāu through an interactive online platform called StoryPark.
Quality care.
The Centre has two separate buildings. Our Nursery caters for children 6 months to 2 years of age and is licensed for 14 children. Our Preschool caters for children 2 years old to school age and is licensed for 29 children. We provide quality care with great ratios of teachers to children.
We employ a centre cook who provides delicious and nutritious meals for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Our seasonal menu aligns with National Healthy Heart Guidelines.
We believe in providing a calm and peaceful environment with free choice for tamariki to engage daily in indoor and outdoor activities. Our key teaching framework enhances relationships with tamariki, creating a strong sense of stability and connection in a home away from home.

Fees are inclusive of GST and are to be paid weekly or fortnightly by automatic payment or direct debit.
Payment of fees must be made one week in advance prior to a child starting at the Centre.
